Driving the Nissan Leaf was like stepping into a time machine to peek out how we will drive in the near future. In order for you to know it, driving an electric car is very different from the driving we are used to with our petrol, diesel, methane or LPG cars, and now I’ll tell you about it.

It’s really comfortable in the city but does not worry, modulate the braking by detaching the foot from the ‘gas’ and just as easy to modulate by pressing on the brake, to me it was enough just a little’ practice. By activating the ‘unique pedal, the regeneration process of and just lift the foot slightly to slow down and, at the same time, recharge the batteries.

Let’s take a little trip out of the city and then look for some more uncluttered roads and some big corners. Feel how well the steering responds, it’s direct and transparent. The suspensions are not too springy and keep me glued to the asphalt, there is no roll that I would have expected from a car of 4.48 meters in length. This time I deactivate the e-Pedal and act directly on the brake pedal. I do not have the possibility to modulate the braking to the millimeter, but the brakes always do their duty. In my wanderings, first in the city and then on the extra-urban roads, on a mixed route, the consumption was 5 km / kWh. In short, in the city the autonomy stood at 250 km while crushing the ‘gas’ pedal a little more, the autonomy dropped to around 200 km.

There is something, however, that makes me turn up my nose. Driving is very high and even lowering the seat completely, I seem to drive on the perch. This feeling is also emphasized by the impossibility of adjusting the steering wheel in depth, which always remains too low. A flaw to be taken into consideration. All the rest of the passenger compartment consists of a mix of hard and soft plastics of good quality. The final aspect is taken care of and leaves the right space also to modernity, with the dashboard that presents an unprecedented round joystick to select the direction of travel, on the dashboard the lancet speedometer, with blue inserts. A little further to the left, here is the color screen that, through the controls on the steering wheel, allows me to monitor consumption, autonomy and to understand, in real time, if the powertrain is exploiting all the available energy or if it is recharging the batteries. There is also a nice touchscreen pad, in color, 7 “for the infotainment system, compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The lithium-ion are placed in the rear floor, under the luggage compartment but this does not affect its capacity: 385 liters round. The space available is very, especially deep, but I found the entry step a bit ‘too high and the mouth of the trunk a hair too tight. It is time to recharge the batteries. I just have to open the door on the bonnet and choose whether to use the standard charging socket, present in the homes of each of us or the fast one of the 50 kW direct current columns (both supplied as standard). I have to admit that the only recharge I tried to do at home blew me up seven times in an afternoon. For a full charge I had to ‘attach’ the machine to the editor and after 20 hours, the Nissan Leaf was again charged (from 30% to 80%). Using a column, the charging time is reduced to 10 hours.

And finally the price. To take home the Nissan Leaf under test, in the Nissan Leaf Tekna outfit that includes all the above-mentioned driving systems as well as alloy wheels, automatic climate, navigator and adaptive cruise control, the check must have written a nice 39,790 euros.
