The 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200 does not have a rival bike that is perfectly superimposable. The Urban GS of BMW is not so specialized and even the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled equals it.
As usual, attention to detail and the value of materials can be noticed at a glance. The brushed aluminum of the terminals, the tank made without visible welding and embellished by the hand-crafted coach line and the cap of the Monza tank are a joy for the eyes. Plastic not received. Except for some minor components, this explains the remarkable weight of 207 kg dry.
The Triumph Scrambler 1200 comes in two versions: the specialist XE, created to face without fear even the most challenging dirt road, and the XC, versatile everything to do, less rich in standard equipment. As two sides of the same coin, the technical basis of both is very similar: original steel frame, adjustable Showa fork, the pair of shock absorbers developed ad hoc by Ohlins and Brembo braking system with radial front calipers M50.
Even the engine is shared, the parallel twin Bonneville High Power with 1,200 cc (90 hp at 7,400 rpm and 110 Nm at 3,950 rpm) was lightened and seasoned in “sauce” scrambler sweetening the delivery and spreading the torque along the entire length of the tachometer to the full advantage of off-road behavior.
The two versions are different in terms of cold numbers, in this case, those relating to cycling odds. The most obvious difference is the suspension of the suspension that on the XE is 250 mm while on the XC stops at 200 mm. This also implies a difference in the height of the saddle with respect to the ground: 840 mm on the XC, 870 mm on the XE. To guarantee the space required for the extra excursion dose, Triumph has developed a specific XE swingarm, increased by 3 cm compared to that used by Cross Country (XC).
The two sisters also differ in their endowment. Be clear, on both is very rich and includes TFT display with Bluetooth connection, cruise control, heated grips, five riding modes, and traction control. The XE adds an optional riding mode Enduro Pro (the only one able to disable the ABS), the inertial platform that allows you to have Traction control and ABS cornering, Brembo MCS adjustable pitch brake lever and oversized fork stems to 47 mm (45 mm on the XC).
Triumph is accustoming us to classic bikes provided with the state of the art technology, but with the new Scrambler, it goes a step further. In addition to the full LED headlights with DRL function, the Keyless ignition system and the USB socket to charge the smartphone, in the world premiere, thanks to the partnership with GoPro (the action cams colossus) the possibility of controlling the GoPro through the blocks is introduced placed on the handlebars.
